Royal welsh agricultural society

The royal welsh agricultural society was formed in 1904, and the first show was held in Aberystwyth in the same year. The Society has come a long way since those early days and the royal Welsh Show has become an important event in the Welsh calendar attracting some 240,000 people over the course of the four days and is supported by approximately 18,000 staunch members. This success has allowed for the extensive development of the permanent showground at Llanelwedd, first used in 1963, which is set in the heart of the scenic Mid Wales countryside. The royal welsh agricultural society has played a leading role in the development of agriculture and the rural economy in Wales for over a century since its formation. Their work includes providing support for business, social welfare and education in rural communities, and the organisation and staging of our ever-popular Society events; the Spring Festival, the Summer Show and the Winter Fair. To promote agriculture, horticulture, forestry and conservation, particularly in Wales. The objectives of the society include advancement in science, research and education in connection with these industries, promoting the improvement of livestock and the prevention and eradication of diseases in animals, holding demonstrations of modern agricultural methods and processes, holding shows for the exhibition of livestock, poultry, farm and horticultural produce and forestry and to accommodate demonstrations allied to the rural industries listed. The royal welsh Show is the one of the largest agricultural shows in Europe. It is organised by the royal welsh agricultural society, and takes place in July of each year, at Llanelwedd, near Builth Wells, in Powys, Mid Wales. The first show was held in Aberystwyth in 1904, and its success led to the development of the permanent showground at Llanelwedd, first used in 1963. The show lasts for four days and attracts more than 200,000 visitors annually, making it a major boom for tourism in Wales.
